Biography:
Born in Shanghai in 1963, Shi is a pioneering Chinese installation and media artist. Since 1993, his works have been widely exhibited worldwide. Early on, his art focused on revealing ideological structures within reality, later shifting to the transformation of contemporary Shanghai under the Reform and Opening-up era, and broader themes such as globalization and consumer culture. In 2006, with the work 2007 No Kassel Documenta, he began critiquing the art world itself, exploring resistance through the "suspension" of creation. His 2015 solo exhibition Let All Possibilities Be Resolved Internally in Beautiful Forms continued this exploration, delving into themes of control. He received the Robochu Selection Annual Artist Award in 2021.
