Brief description:

For the course at DSA, we will create a visual identity for yourself, or rather, your temple. By using only typography, we will look at ways on how to create an impactful visual system across all media to reach new followers and to distinguish yourself and your brand amidst a plentitude of platitudes.

Biography:

Dan Solbach is a Swiss graphic designer based in Berlin. He specializes in art books and visual identity design, primarily working with artists, galleries, and contemporary art institutions. His portfolio includes artist books, exhibition catalogs, literary monographs, and visual identity systems (VI). He is also a founding member of the independent Georgian publishing house Kona Books and co-manages its affiliated bookstore, Posta da Kona.

Solbach’s clients include Haus der Kunst (Munich), Kunsthalle Basel, Kunstmuseum Bern, Kunsthaus Zürich, Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen (Düsseldorf), Mudam Luxembourg (Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean), Shanghai’s Tank Art Center, Berlin’s Starship Press, Westfälischer Kunstverein, and London’s White Cube Gallery, among others. His works have been honored with awards such as Switzerland’s Most Beautiful Books, the Swiss Design Award, and twice with the Goldene Letter (Golden Letter)—the highest accolade in global book design at the Leipzig Book Fair.
